In fact, Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University decided to investigate how boats and economics are linked in the mountains of western North Carolina. Twenty departments have been studied and research has revealed that the vessel has been developed in each county. Craft production and the sale is so vital to the economy in western North Carolina that without it, the region can not succeed.
And, while money is important, not the bottom line. Handicrafts are the lifeblood of the region and the boat has a civilizing influence that enriches their lives local residents and visitors. Therefore, builders and craft artisans are developing ways to work together to forge a real sense of place into the fabric of our communities and homes.
Crafts and NC Mountain Real Estate
In the 1900s, arts and crafts style houses began to emerge and the United States, examples of these houses are present in and around the Asheville area. Asheville, North Carolina is a center of crafts in the Appalachian Mountains and is home to one of the most recognized companies in the crafts in the country – the Southern Highlands Craft Guild. Relations in the region between manufacturers and artisans of the craft back to the late 1800s, when George W. Vanderbilt built the magnificent Biltmore property. Today, this same relationship that still exists.

Nancy Troxler, the coordinator for technical training industrial and AB Tech also welcomes the opportunity to partner with Handmade in America to design and offer certification programs that can strengthen and expand the development of crafts in the region.
